Not too long ago, in certain areas in Kula Lumpur, Mr Chew Boon Kee, Pets Wonderland founder, noticed that pet shops were just stores selling animals. The animals were treated as commodities, housed in squalid conditions, with little thought (or investment) for their comfort and well-being. Mr Chew dreamed of something much more user friendly and much more pet friendly. Impressed by the big box stores of US Petsmart and PetCo and the mall-based Pets Paradise Australia, Mr Chew decided to marry the two concepts. The first Pets Wonderland outlet was opened in 2001 in MidValley Megamall occupying a floor space of 8,000 square feet, perhaps the largest pet store in Asia at that time.

It was the first pet store chain to be located in premier shopping malls where customers can conveniently shop, bring their pets for grooming or a vet check up.
The first to invest RM1 million in fitout for one pet store, with a prototype store designed to have a clear, vibrant, informative and exciting look. Stores having a floor space of 6,000 to 10,000 square feet
The first to be a one stop pet superstore with fish, dogs, cats, small animals and related food and accessories with over 15,000 products
The first to introduce a pets loyalty programme, “Privilege Card Member” or PCM specifically targeting serious pet owners
The first to have resident veterinarians to offer vet consultation and grooming services.
