HKT (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd was established in 1978 by the now defunct Hong Kong Teakwood Group of companies to tap the abundant source of rubber wood timber for their furniture production factories in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. HKT itself went into furniture production during the mid-eighties and started with dinette furniture for the USA market. In 1997, it underwent further upgrading to formal dining production. Then in 2002, it started manufacturing bedroom products, also for the USA market.
