Twenty-five years ago, a group of prominent businessmen in the State of Penang conceived the idea of establishing the island's first private hospital.
The businessmen - Tan Sri Dato' Loh Boon Siew, Dato' Tan Kim Yeow, Choong Eng Kim, Dato' Yeap Hock Hoe, Tuan Hajee Mayen Abubacker and Dr R.N. Pannikar had at some time or other, been under the care of several senior consultants at the Penang General Hospital.

Gleneagles Medical Centre, Penang being the first private hospital in Penang & the Northern Region to be accorded with 3 Years Full Accreditation by The Malaysian Society for Quality In Health (MSQH) for the period from 28th Oct 2002 - 27th Oct 2005.
